Macadamia Reader Packs

Macas
A set of graded phonic readers produced in five packs of ten booklets.  Simply illustrated so as not to distract from the text - so students learn to read words not pictures!

"There continues to be a shortage of reading materials that permit the direct practice of skills taught.  The Macadamia Readers are a rare and valuable source that fulfil this need"  Dr Bonnie Macmillan author of Why Schoolchildren Can't Read.

Gumnut Readers contain ten stories per booklet.  The font is carefully chosen to cause the least confusion in letter recognition.  The written forms of a and g are used and the font is large.  The Gumnuts correspond to the Practical Phonics Books 1 & 2 and cover one letter/one sound correspondences.  Stories are short to capture beginners concentration.  Sight words are kept to an absolute minimum.

Peanut Readers correspond to Practical Phonics 3 including sounds beginners are learning as they are learning them - they will not come across a sound they have not yet learnt.  Vocabulary is extensive and use of a dictionary is recommended.  Font size continues to decrease.

Walnut Readers correspond to Practical Phonics 4.  Again readers will only be exposed to sounds they are learning as they learn them.  The written form of a and g are swapped for the printed forms.  Vocabulary continues to be expanded and stories lengthen.

Coconut Readers correspond to Practical Phonics 5.  Stories increase to two pages.  The subject matter across all readers is extensive and there is a good mix of fiction and non-fiction stories to interest the most fussy of readers.

Bunya Nut Readers correspond to Practical Phonics 6 and should bring the reader to maturity.

The Chart is a cross-reference guide to the Nutshell Programme: SPA Kit, Practical Phonics Books and Macadamia Readers.

It shows educators how to use the Nutshell programme in a complete and systematic way, to teach spelling in any educational setting. It shows the essential basics of the literacy curriculum. All the resources need to be integrated, to reinforce multi-sensory learning and achieve optimal results.

Nutshell’s Developmental Phonogram Chart is a ‘coat hanger’ model, which lends itself to creativity and promotes individual teaching styles; it supports and develops individual learning styles by encouraging a multi-sensory approach.
